Iphone editing using photo apps

IMG_0343IMG_0285 This shot was taken about 5 years ago on my then new Nikon D90. It was okay but the sky was bland and I didn’t look at again until recently and thought it might have potential as a processed iphone image! Basically edited in snapseed, distressed FX and Mextures I’m quite pleased with the overall effect and now am encouraged to maybe try some more old images and maybe unlock some hidden images.

IMG_0347IMG_0350  These two shots were taken in 2011 in Aberdovey  a village on the north side of the estuary of the River Dyfi in Gwynedd, on the west coast of Wales.  . It has  really interesting seascapes and lots of small fishing boats for great photo opportunities. Taken on my Nikon D90 then processed on my iphone 5 using the usual suspects snapseed, Distressed FX and mextures, then back to snapseed for a nice frame. You can tune down each effect and play with contrast and saturation as well in Distressed FX, and each image took about 30-45 mins to create.

IMG_0253IMG_0256  Finally a carousel in Les biches France. I edited in photshop CS4 for a more Dramatic sky, then importrd to my iphone 5 to add a couple of textures and a nice Frame. Please tell me what you think and any other suggestions.

Iphone editing workflows

IMG_0382IMG_0384IMG_0388

IMG_0263IMG_0267 I have been experimenting some more with the fantastic selection of photographic apps available through the apple store. These tree images taken in a snowy field in St Albans England on my Nikon D90 and were severely underexposed. I converted using Lightroom and CS4 adjusting exposure and converting to mono. I then decided to  import to my iphone and run the images through some apps. Firstly into snapseed my favourite exding app to crop and tidy up a bit. Then into distressed FX, which has some amazing textures in it. I choose the charm texture and tweaked the controls for the effects I wanted. Then into Mextures another great texture app where you can layer effects on top of each other. The processing was pretty much the same for both images and goes to show that you can get some great finishes to an image no matter what format your using. Here are some more images that followed the same processes. I’ve included before and after pics.

IMG_0268IMG_0271  The Birds were added using Distressed FX as well. Another good app for adding effects is Lenslight although you might be restricted to a lower resolution. It’s worth remembering to check the size that each app saves your files always go for the maximum settings available. I hope to post some more images soon, please feel free to ask any questions on these edited images.

Portraits from Speaker’s Corner

P1040211sml P1040245sml Speakers corner again! It really is a great place for interesting portraits as everybody is so animated and they don’t realise your even there. This guy’s there most Sundays and is always good value. I call the cowboy preacher. Shot with a Panasonic GF2 compact system camera fitted with the 45-175mm HD internal focussing lens, which gives the equivalent 90-350mm in old money! It’s a great lens for getting close as it stays the same length throughout it’s zoom range.Edited in Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS4 using the silver efex pro filter which is fantastic.

P1040406sml P1040379sml Never seen this character before but he was so expressive you couldn’t not get a good shot!! Fortunately the day was overcast and I managed to get down low and shoot him against the white sky which I think helps the shot. Again edited in Lightroom 4 and CS4 (silver efex pro). They looked almost monochrome to start with so it was a no brainer to convert really.02 RESOLUTE by Craig Poltock class1.jpg P1040319sml The first image is a self portrait as I have trouble getting people to pose! I did a lot of work in photoshop and used the nik software plug in extensively. It did quite well in our first digital competition this year so I was pleased after all the work I did on it. The second image is another regular from Speaker’s corner having a heated debate. I might work on the surroundings a bit to get the overall atmosphere from there so maybe some crowd interaction pics next time I visit!
