West Pier Brighton

IMG_4207  IMG_4211 Visited Brighton Today and took some pictures of the old west Pier that lies burnt out and abandoned to the sea. It was built in 1866 and was used up until about 1975 and was due to be renovated before suffering from two fires. All these images were taken on my iphone 4 using procamera for the first image and bracket mode for the second and third images. Basic editing in Snapseed..brightness, sharpening and a drama filter, then exported to Distressed FX and mextures for the texture effects. Finally into Snapseed again for some blurring and the frames. Quite pleased with the results as it was and overcast and dreary day, the subject matter was strong and I think this helped with the overall strength of the images. It would be interesting if anyone agrees/disagrees with this!

Capture and editing with my Iphone

IMG_4003 IMG_4007 Hi, thought i’d share some more iphone images and post processing using just the iphone and some different apps. This image was taken at Buckingshire golf course in Denham, Bucks very early one morning using Bracket mode and pro HDR to get the desired exposure you can see the steam rising off the lake in the background!!. . After capture I did some basic adjustments using Snapseed, including a crop and sharpening. Then I added a moon using Lenslight and then some different textures using Distressed FX and Mextures. Finally into suoerimpose to apply a mask and some gentle blurring to get the finished image.

IMG_4011 IMG_4021Very similar treatment for this next image taken on the same day. Bracket mode ans pro HDR for capture, Snapseed, lenslight, distreesed FX and mextures for processing before using superimpose for some blur and back to Snapseed for a frame. The great thing about these apps is you can adjust the level at which you want to apply the treatment, so you can be as subtle or over the top as you want.

IMG_3996 IMG_4001 This last image was taken near the South Bank in London early evening. Using snapseed I cropped to a square frame  and made some basic adjustments. Using an app called Perspective I changed the position of the building slightly before using Distressed FX and mextures to create the texture I wished. All This is very easy to achieve using just the Iphone and the only real limits are your imagination so why not give it a go, it really is great fun!

London Southbank Stroll.

IMG_3964 IMG_3977 IMG_3973Took a walk along the South Bank earlier this month, it was a glorious sunny  evening and fortunately I had my Iphone with me! All these shots were taken at sunset on the beach just past Waterloo bridge. They were all taken with an app called Bracket mode which basically takes two images one for highlights and one for shadows, then I transfer them into an app callded ProHDR which merges both images together. As seems to be the norm for me now I processed them all on the Iphone using three editing apps. The first port of call is always Snapseed  for cropping, adjustments and sharpening, then it’s off to Distressed FX for some arty effects ( including Birds!! ). Finally it’s over to Mextures for some grungy textures. Thanks for looking…..

Iphone processing and hipstamatic pic.

IMG_3825 IMG_3737The first shot was taken in Aberdovey, Wales. It’s a fantastic Town well worth a visit and not too far from Snowdonia. There were great contrasting colours and loads of boats anchored off the shore, and I loved the Yellow house and Boat especially, it seemed to work! Taken on a small panasonic handheld compact camera and transferred to my Iphone. Then the usual editing with Snapseed, Distressed fx and Mextures, then back to Snapseed for some blur. The second image was taken in Bucks golf course on a foggy day. It was taken on my Nikon d90 and then processed in lightroom and photoshop cs4 before being transferred over to the iphone for some radical processing using Snapseed, Distressed fx, Mextures, Lenslight and filterstorm.

IMG_3789This image was taken using the Hipstamatic app on the iphone and  using the Roboto Glitter Lens and dreamcanvas film. Taken on a very sunny day in London and shot into the sun as the commuter walked into the frame. I like the kind of abstract effect created with this combo.

Tree in Snow and fog workflow

tree in fogtree in fog1IMG_3730Thought I would try to share some of my processing workflow with you. The  picture was taken in St Albans Hertfordshire uk on a cold snowy mid-morning. I stopped the car jumped out, waded across a snow covered field a grabbed a few images on my Nikon D90. As you can tell it is woefully underexposed with barely any details, so I processed for more detail using Lightroom and photshop CS4. I then transferred the image onto my Iphone and used Snapseed, Distressed FX and mextures to get the desired final image you see here. The moon was added with an app called Lenslight and then some blurring again using Snapseed centre focus. I’m always amazed at how far you can push your processing and think the hardest discipline is to know when to stop!! Hope this will inspire a few people to have a go themselves, it’s great fun!!

Speaker’s Corner

IMG_3433 IMG_3435Visited Speaker’s corner on Sunday for the first time without my Nikon D90. Had my trusty Panasonic GF2 and of course my iphone and managed to capture a few good shots. The first was taken on the iphone using the  Hipstamatic camera app, it was taken without the subject being aware and I love the way he’s totally in his own world with his Cigarette. The Second shot was actually taken on my GF2 and then processed to look like an old Hipstamatic like shot!! go figure.

P1030623pc P1030663pc lady sp 2013pcThe next three shots were all taken with the GF2 with only minor adjustments made in Lightroom 4. All were taken with the 45-175 panasonic lumix G X lens which features an internal zoom mechanism so the actual length of the lens stays the same throughout it’s zoom. It seems to be quite sharp and gives the equivalent 35mm range of 90-350mm which is pretty impressive!.

IMG_3200 IMG_3206 IMG_3405Finally Three more heavily processed iphone shots. The first taken at Milton, near Bournemouth uk was originally shot as two images light and dark and then merged in the HDR pro app. I then processed and tuned some more using snapseed before adding some distressed effects (and birds!! ) in the Distressed FX and Mextures apps. The second was taken at Buckinghamshire Golf course and processed with snapseed, distressed FX, mextures and Lenslight (for the large Moon). The final image was taken at Marble Arch London, It was cropped and processed mainly in Snapseed and finished in the  Noir app. “Have fun and enjoy life, we may not pass this way again” is my motto of the week..:0)..Bye
